I think of the people that I used to know
Lovers I can recall, where are they now?
I wonder if anyone still feels the same?
I do remember it all, just yesterday
And all those sunny days always around
Falling around me
I walked down the street where we all used to live
Now there's nothing the same, I've seen it all
And as the years have gone by I still know
Still know the story
Sing me the song, everyone laugh
All sing along, right to the back
When we were younger much younger than now
Life was a fast game, we played it somehow
Now I'm much older and time passes by
Maybe the truth was a lie
When we were younger we lived for the day
They seemed much longer but drifted away
Now I'm much older, I don't have to try
There's no one to whisper goodbye
Did all of the dreams that we wanted come true?
Some did, clearly not all, maybe a few
Grown up and gone separate ways to the end
Leaving was friendly
I can't stop my feelings, they're starting to show
Somewhere deep in my soul, I feel it grow
Something keeps taking me back, I don't know
Waiting to call me
. . .
|
|
Goodnight, baby, don't you despair
Sleep tight maybe, morning will answer your prayers
Eyes wide open, going nowhere
No words spoken, handle your dreams with great care
Their faces still haunt me
I tremble reluctantly
Like children they wonder
Their freedom dies endlessly
We're all crazy, that's just a fact
They can't save me, Heaven will come dressed in black
It's all over, into the fire
Hatred smoulders, gathered round each funeral pyre
The place is still burning
They crumble in sympathy
This nonsense surrounds us
No reason, no empathy
People feel forsaken
In this place together
Everything is breaking
It will take forever
. . .
|
|
I never shot no one
You're not my enemy
'Cause I'm a peaceful man
Live till eternity
I'd never steal from you
No one can own this place
My God is strong and true
He'll never fall from grace
We died for this land, so pray for us all
We're pictures in sand, they're closing the door
Hearts have been bled and crashed to the floor
Like brothers we stand, they've fooled us once more
How can you feel at ease?
Look at the things you've done?
You always will deceive
But then your day will come
The future was planned and now we must crawl
Let justice be damned, they've taken it all
Now things that you read, you've seen it before
Like brothers we stand, they've fooled us once more
They came from a place that's so different
To teach us it all
We welcomed and gave no resistance
But then came the fall
They didn't realise they were strangers
How could they think so small?
. . .
|
|
There's a chance that they take, thrown in together
And decisions they make out of their hands
There's a nightmare in sight, goes on forever
And no one will take flight, everyone stands
Fifty-thousand lay dead, out of the shadows
Resurrectionists said, "oh what a sight"
And someone will get rich, cheating the gallows
As the scavenger flits all through the night
No one will cry
Everyone's writing their final goodbye
Under the skies of scarlet and black
Thousands of eyes, there's no turning back
Morning draws near, the hour is at hand
Soon to be over when ghosts walk this land
There's a picture to paint, broken and haggard
Propositioned too late, beggar's delight
Riders lay where they fall, bloody and ragged
To their mothers they call, frozen in fright
What a surprise, they march off to war
Nothing to give and nothing to score
It seems so clear, the final demand
Waterloo teeth from the ghost of a man
. . .

I get myself to the top of the stairs
Into my room, to the land of nowhere
And read about all the princes and kings
Soldiers at war doing treacherous things
I've crossed the seas to a different land
Shot through the skies at the wave of a hand
And when I've looked up at castles so tall
Into the clouds, any minute might fall
Dragons are real
I've seen them fly out of the sun
And all the fools will disappear
Watch them all run
Go take me away, take me away
I've stood alone where the mountains are blue
Watching the world's unbelievable view
A special book makes the child in us cry
Magic in words at the blink of an eye
Dogs they will howl
Jokers will cry, cities will fall
Heroes are gone, villains draw near
I've seen them all
Go take me away, take me away
Dragons are real
I've seen them fly out of the sun
And all the fools will disappear
Watch them all run
Go take me away, take me away
Dogs they will howl and the
Jokers will cry, cities will fall
Heroes are gone, villains draw near
I've seen them all
Go take me away, take me away

Lived your life a working man
Every day just the same
Passing time the best you can
Running home through the rain
Now it's all gone
But carry on
You sit alone into the night
And think about what could be
You missed the chance you had in life
A father to your family
It's not watch it seems
When you've got dreams
Inside your head, no one sees
They fear to tread
Inside your head, you're still free
It must be said
Every word you used to say
Answers to everything
Your old world of yesterday
There's so much you could bring
While you still breathe
You will believe
No one has done it all
Even today, big or the small
And when people might call
Don't run away, you just stand tall
. . .
|
|
They take everything you have
And turn you upside down
You break and you feel so sad
They've got you spinning around
Oh, what a day
You try, you do your best
But nothing seems to work
You're not like all the rest
When you're the one who hurts
Oh, what a day
When everything in your world has gone wrong
Can't get to sleep and the morning won't come
No one around you to help you along
You've got to take it, you've got to be strong
Be strong, just be strong
Don't look back, let them do their worst
That's all they have to do
Your place could be in reverse
Your future coming through
Oh, what a day
You don't have to feel this way
When someone turns you down
There will be another day
Your star will soon come around
Oh, what a day
Stay with me though the night
You can stay with me all your life
'Cause we both really need to get together
Make everything all right
It's not bad, it's just some rainy weather
Nothing that we can't fight
. . .
|
|
No answers to all your questions
No gun at your head
But you will see
Don't dwell on your rejections
Just you let them be
Some people will try and tell you
You're wasting your time
But they don't know
They've been nowhere, didn't want to
And they'll never go
It's a precious thing
You don't want to lose
But with every word you say
All that you can bring
You don't get to choose
Please don't throw it all away
Now I feel better
Thank you for the day, for the day
We'll last forever
Thank you for the day, for the day
Be careful, you could be sorry
You'll wake up and find
When you come down
No reason for you to worry
You'll still be around
. . .
|
|
Don't trust what they tell you
They're just playing
They think we're crazy
It's our lives they're betraying
Can't stop their ambition
I'm just saying
We're all pigs at the same trough
Dealing while we're praying
Your lies don't fool me
You take almost constantly
Your lies make you see
Puts you where you want to be
No life for a poor man
I've seen through you
No room for a traitor
Nothing that we can do
All you want to be
If you can survive
Lose your sanity
Just to stay alive
. . .

When you find yourself in a field of dreams
But you're all played out and you can't believe
When you're all alone in the darkest night
And the wind blows hard, you don't want to fight
So you ask yourself, now you've come this far
'Cause you can't look back, don't know where you are
But you carry on in this world of pain
Knowing very well it's a tearful game
The beginning to the end
What we borrow, what we lend
We contemplate the past
We all remember well
It's disappearing fast
But only time will tell
Ask yourself anyway
You can't lose, come what may
Now desperate times have come
They fall on everyone
When you've lost your way in the pouring rain
And you can't see how you'll get back again
When there's no one there, when you switch the light
So you settle down to the longest night
Now the day goes by but the time goes slow
And this emptiness, it won't let you go
But you can't give up when the cold wind blows
'Cause it's not in vain, everyone knows
You just keep waiting, nowhere to hide
Now how does it feel here tonight?
. . .

Slow down before we both start crying
Yeah yeah there will be no denying
Just wait before the first starts flying
Yeah yeah you know we're all just dying
Slow down before we both start crying
Yeah yeah you know they'll all start lying
So for a hundred years there won't be a trace
You can't hide, not in this place
I never thought these things could happen today
Buries so deep, hidden away
But then the lighting flashed and the thunder it roared
Everyone said you've been here before
And as the door slammed shut, you're completely ignored
You'll never sleep, you'll sleep no more
I've walked and all the bells were ringing
Yeah yeah and all the lights were blinking
I walked with every step I'm thinking
Yeah yeah I heard the children singing
. . .
|

I never shot no one
